Eng Fuse Blows instantly...
As the title states, the fuse blew this afternoon, and blows every time I put a new fuse in it. Tach, Temp, Oil, Battery, and Turn Signals all do not work. However, emergency flashers work. Battery light stays on constantly.
Any idea as to what may cause this?

Also, I have battery extension cords for my Intake/Battery swap, if that has anything to do with it.

Sounds like a ground out somewhere. I don't wanna say definite answers but I would be suspect of my alternator. I replaced the stator in my alt awhile back from 60 amps to 90 and when hooking everything back up I kept blowing my main fuse until I stepped it up to cover the additional amps. Maybe not identical to your situation, but we both had the same results. It was relating to my alternator is all I'm saying.

my engine fuse kept blowing. i unplugged the power window relay and it solved my problem. one of the solder connections had melted inside of the relay and the wire re-soldered itself to a different wire, so my engine fuse kept blowing. i figured this out. only becuz my windows stopped working. but the door locks worked. so i took it apart and found the bad wires. then i decided to try the engine fuse again. everything was fixed after a new power window relay was installed...\

When you say to check the fuses with the light, how will I know when it's not tripping? When it stops sparking at me?

first check all engine bay cables for crossing
second the elimination
third take of the charging system fuse
and last check the o2 senror wiring sometimes the heat from the exhaust melt it causing to make contact with the exhaust.

So far as my schematics show, the only thing powered through the "Engine" fuse is the alternator http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1990-1995...h/systemci.pdf and the Cruise Control http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1990-1995...e/cruiseco.pdf . Most likely you have a dead alternator; pull the plug from the alternator and try again (or save a fuse and use your ohmmeter). If the fuse still blows it is either the wiring to the alternator or the cruise control.
So far as I can tell, the Engine fuse has nothing to do with the O2 Sensor, the power windows, or the size of the alternator (it powers the field winding).

Engine fuse blowing
I had this same issue with my '85.
It all started like this; I drove 80 miles when suddenly I had no oil,temp, volt and the other gauge. Also no blinkers altho the hazards worked. With all else functioning , I continued another 10 miles to my destination. While checking under the hood, I noticed the bottom alternator bolt was just about to fall out. Problem solved!! Nope..not yet. drove all the way back home, went and got another alternator, wired it up(without cranking engine), turned ignition on and fssst...nope not the alternator. Wired old one back up, started tidying up old frayed wires in the alt. harness, fssst...not yet. Got underneath tranny and noticed a wire barely hanging in its connector, unplugged it and whamo! gauges and blinkers work! now I think the connector may be the neutral safety switch as my reverse lights work. For now I can deal with that!! thanks for everyone's input and I hope I helped someone in return =) Angie
