hey guys im new here and its a nice site u got here. i got a 86 4runner and my starter locked up wich caused my ground and main positive to burn up so i replaced all that and she still wont start so how do i test wat else burned up or find out why it wont start ?

Hmmm, might want to check the fuse box there by the battery. There's a couple high amp fuses there that might be bad now.

Check the main 80 amp fuse in the fuse box by the battery, there is also an ignition fuse inside the truck behind the driver side kick panel. either one of those could keep your 4Runner from starting.

isn't the power to the starter direct, as in no fuse?

is there any clicking at all from the starter when you turn the key?

if so, then at least it's getting power

if not, then you're looking at the ignition circut

Thats true, i wasn`t thinking about that, but there is an ignition fuse behind the driverside kick panel.

You still need the power from the ignition switch to energize the coil in the starter solenoid to pull in the contacts so the battery power can then turn the starter .

This is one of those that you need the electrical manual and good multi meter.

Does it crank but not start or no crank??

If it cranks look to see if you have spark and fuel .

It could be one or more of the fusible links has melted you could have melted some of the wires on the positive battery terminal .

Check all your fuses and fusible links as a start.
