ECU fitment question. What ecu fits what?

Exactly as the title says. I am having intermittent issues with my 1991 3vze, as I explained in another thread. What I'm wondering is simple, which is : Other than the obvious, like the presence of 4wd and a manual trans, what years of ecu will work in my truck?

Search by part number...doesn't matter what year it is if the part numbers are the same.

That's what I figured. I just wish there were a way to search for the part number of my ecu in junkyards. All the search engines go by year of manufacture only.

Thanks everyone for your prompt replies.

Neat thing called Google you may have heard of...does wonders in these situations.

You can also try car-part.com...excellent site for sourcing used parts.

That's what I've been using. It indexes by year, hence my question.

Ever used car-part before? They use an interchange list to show you what will work for your vehicle, not just parts specifically for the year you enter. With something like an ECU, I would still verify the part number matches what you have.

Edit - why are you replacing the ECU?

A persistent (Four years now) no start / missing issue. I'm going to clean up the ecu ground first, however. I have another thread about the issue itself on here.

Definitely clean all of your grounds first.

It is pretty rare for an ECU to fail, and when they do it's usually due to corrosion from the windshield leaking on it.

Have you checked for codes?
