Its been a while for me, but swivel extension was the only way I could do it, verrrry hard to see in there. Just guide the socket with your hands and poke at it until its around the plug. Real pain.

Yeah it sucks. I think I eventually came up from the bottom on my friends 4Runner with a swivel and two extensions on either end of it. Spin slow and easy until you feel it catch nicely, aka careful not to crossthread it and strip the threads.

Remove your charcoal cannister.. Put a couple of extensions together and you'll have a straight shot at it.

Try sticking your tongue in the right corner of your mouth while using your left hand to turn the socket...
Are you pulling it out - or putting it back in? I actually used a shorter extension and a ratchet - broke it loose and then spun it off by hand. Putting it back in - insert the spark plug in the socket (mine has a rubber o-ring to hold plugs in place) and thread in by hand. Only using the ratchet/extension for the last few turns.

gm turbo nailed it.
I use the sparkplug socket, a short exension, and a 3/8" to 1/2" adapter. The get a 1/2" ratchet and bust it loose, remove ratchet and unscrew it the rest of the way by hand. Installation is reverse order. And yes it will all be under the vacuum line mess... Doing it this way a plug change takes 20 to 30 minutes total. Oh and occasionally swear, even if you have nothing to swear about, it apeases the busted knuckle gods....lol
