i am thinking about doing the toyota e-locker mod into my 89 runner rear 8" housing i have done all the research and got all the part numbers i need to do this mod. my question is can i purchase just the toyota 8" rear carrier assy. cover for the e-locker and the actual actuator differential lock shaft assy. and bolt it together with my stock third member or do i need to get a hold of a complete e-locker third member already assembled and go from there, i know it will be easier to find a complete e-locker third member used , but would also like to know if i could go the other way i mentioned ? i am aware that the axle housing needs to be modified and all that good stuff , any input would be highly appreciated thanks.

You need the elocker complete third.

It is not possible to do it the way you mentioned, if you had the two different thirds in front of you it would make sense they are waaaayy different
