ok heres the story, my e-brake light always worked fine, untill, i was off road hit some big ruts and pot holes, lost my window washer fluid cap, put my battery into my p/s pully and then the light turned on and stayed on, hit some more bumps and it went out, it went on and off the whole trip. then it turned off for good. looking under my dash i found that the connector for the switch is detached but there connectors are in perfect, like new condition(not shure how they came apart?), but there is nothing there to press down on the switch? i tried it and it and both the switch and light still work, what was supposed to be there?

and have to say, at least with my truck, it'd be a work of the devil himself to get my battery to hit my power steering pulley considering they are on opposite sides of the truck

On the 3vze the battery is like 2" from the power steering pully. Before I put the "proper" wooden spacer in my battery tray the same thing happend. Thankfully I heard the squealing of the pully eating into the battery before it did any damage..

Should be a little tab on the end of the e-brake handle that depresses the switch when the e-brake is fully dis-engauged.

haha thanks jay for backing me up on the battery placement, and ya it only happened to me once too, i have since made my own tie down that actually works.

does any one have a pic of that tab?

I don't have a picture, but if you look down the shaft (haha...shaft!) of the e-brake handle, you should spot where the tab is. Or perhaps it broke off, if that is the case im sure the original posistion of the tab will be evident.

Yeah, adjacent to that switch, there should be a tab. This tab will depress the switch..

Wierd, yours looks clean...

ya i was shocked to see it was so clean, i'll have to have a closer look, and try and find one
ya i used to live up thorn hill, near 248th, it was a nice town to grow up in, most of my friends still live there

Im pretty familer with the thorn hill area I knew a few people who lived up there..


Anyways, you could just tape the sensor down for a temp fix if the light bugs you...

I think I got a bunch of crap in my e-brake cables under the truck that did not allow the tab to hit the switch all the time; got the flickering light. After awhile, the crap worked itself out and now it's OK.

It should have a little metal rod sticking out to press in the button, like this:



Some people have replaced it by tapping the whole and putting a bolt in. there's more info on that fix in my ebrake cable replacement thread.

thanks, that'll help i'm going to have to change out my cable sometime aswell, and thats a good idea about just tapping it and puttin a bolt in there
