E-brake removal

Okay, I have searched up and down and can't find anything-so here goes.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the end of the cable from the e-brake handle. I can see the little tard but the sleeve is too far over it to remove...Is there any other way? There's got to be. I cant get the metal peice that sits on the firewall off either. I can loosen it, but it won't come off. and since the cables are different between the 2 and 4wds I can't use the one that came with the cab. Help!
