I broke mine in in the cab on the handle near the firewall the rest of the cable went down the hole I think. I cant get it out.

I see where the cable ends at the adjuster with the little pin and cotter about midway on the truck. I tryed to pull it from here but it gave me about a foot and stuck. Anyone that has replaced this id love your help.

I replaced mine. Broke right at the handle.
Got a replacment from www.rockauto.com for like $50. I hear you can get them locally from one of the chain stores down in the us... autozone maybe.

Its a tight fit, so take your time

How do I get the long end of it out? its stuck I think but its somewhere in the tube past the firewall. Should it pull through?

IIRC there is a clip on the underneath of the body directly on top of the tranny. One of those gitzies where you have to fold the two tabs to release the cable. Hope you have gorilla arms...

Mine broke a few weeks ago as well. Right at the handle.

I believe partsgeek.com had the cable for like $37. Was going to order it, but it's winter and I have no time or place to repair it while it snows.

Ugh so the cable wont pull through to where it meets the rear cable and adjuster around the middle of the truck ?

or do you mean I have to remove the tube that carries the cable from the firewall to the back of the engine along trans and around to the frame rail where it meets the rear cable ?

its a 93 so I dont know if they every changed the design also.

All you have to do is follow the cable with your hands and find where it is stuck. I know there is a hanger on top of the tranny that could be the culprit. Just follow the cable.

it sounds like you're trying to pull the cable out from the tube that shields it? the whole plastic shield, and cable are one unit, and need to be replaced together.

Well that info is what I needed to know I dont know if it makes it any less of a pita than I was expecting however.

It's not hard to do. Like previously mentioned, just follow the cable along, and disconnect it from the clips that hold it on. It gets a little tight to work around the tranny, but it's not hard. I don't know what your exhaust routing is like near the transmission, but on my 3.0L 4Runner, is was close enough that I had to make sure the exhaust system was cold before I did the job, if I didn't want to burn my arms.

if your trucks anywhere near as dirty as mine, you're gonna be black with grease up to around the bicep area...but it's doable and not hard at all, just annoying and dirty and nasty.

yeah after reading MMA_alex's link I pretty much figured it out, all the answeres were within. Again thanks, and yes im going to end up a mess with crustmud/oil after this is done.
