Ok, I got an Autolite Platinum battery and an Everstart battery. I'm going to be running somewhere around 14 lights not stock. lol.

My friend is going to do dual batteries in his rear wheel well.

What kind of dual battery set ups do other people have?

You also might want to look into a high output alternator. I run 2 batts, I have one wired normally and the other has a simple isolator so I can choose when it provides power and charges.

Direct wired, stock alt, I have no problems, for now anyway, I've been running the setup for 6-7 months now

but there are better ways, I would reccommend an isolator

Well I have a 1992 4Runner.. I haven't looked around much so I'm not totally sure yet. Like I said my friend is putting his in the rear wheel well and I'm really interested in seeing his first.. but if I was going to go a simpler route I may be able to squeeze it in near the intake under the hood..

Any suggestions?

i have a cheap never start and an optima marine deep cycle in the bed both wired full on no problems however one day the never start took a crap unplugged it fired right up off the optima

yeah, thats the issue with hard wiring them; if one craps out, it'll usually take the other down with it. and isolator will prevent this

never start killing an optima now theres a site to c they dont call them deep cycles for the fun of it besides i have my amps and poppers running off it if i disconnect if from charging that would kill the never start trying to charge it back up

oh you can kill an Optima too, it's just harder they tend to get VERY hot (to the point of being able to put you fingerprint into the top plastic) when they go for some reason... or maybe it was just that one... haha, my buddies truck, not mine...

nothing crazy at all, 4 KCs on his roll bar, and 2 more driving lights up front on the bumper; I think the battery was faulty though, cause it contiued to heat up more after we pulled it from the truck

Here is how I did mine in my 90 runner

I put the red top on it's side in the same spot as the factory but on the other side , I had to turn the overflow bottle 180 to fit it all like it belonged there . The battery hold down is a auto zone $4.00 special the top of the fender has one hole drilled so I drilled one more and used the hook side through the holes and made a cross strap out of a piece of metal I found laying around.

I bought a POWER SOURCE battery isolator and hooked it up to the STOCK alternator and wired both battery's as directed by POWER SOURCE as close to the alternator as possible. I did not have enough room to hard mount the isolator to the fender wall so I used industrial zip ties and straped it down as seen then for safety measures I cut some rubber hose and slid them over the studs to ensure that there is no accidental shorting out on the hood.

Anyway here's a few picture so you can get and idea of what it looks like and for the record I have had this set up for about a year with zero issue's and I run a 1600 watt 10 speaker stereo system , 8 130 watt off road lights 4 55 watt back up lights a 8000 lb. winch and everything the truck needs to operate and both batteries charge just fine.

that's a great setup so long as you have the 3.0

it would be a little harder on the 22re equiped vehicles though, just because of where the intake's routed...

my stock 22r goes right there too lol and once the 350 is installed i might have to put everything in the bed lol

Watts/Volts =Amps So if you use 55W/12v=4.58amps per light. 4.58x14 is 64.16amps. And thats the low end. You can do the math for 130W lights. That could be alot of amps for the stock alt, tho i dont know what it puts out.

Awesome info.

I don't know exactly what kindda watts the lights will put out (I haven't picked them out yet).

Probably 6 or 8 trail gear rock lights, 2 Hella Big Lights, 2 off brand fog lights, 2 off brand back up lights.

I don't really know if I could do this..

I have the 2 batteries and I'm going to get an isolator.

I don't want to have to replace the alternator.. So I guess I'm asking if these 12-14 lights will work out with no alternator upgrade with 2 12v batteries with an isolator?
