Drivetrain Length Comparison?

I have a new project I am working on. I was given a free Jeep m38a1. PRetty much tub and frame and axles. Right now I have XJ leafs moutned all the way around. I am trying to figure out a drivetrain. I want something more modern for drivetrain. Currently I am looknig at putting a samurai engine.tranny/tcse udner it but i havnt found one yet. my issue is wheelbase on the Jeep. I know the samurai is about the same wheelbase so that drivetrain would fit. BUT I love my 22re and would like to use toyota. I have heard of people putting 22res in a samurai but after I measured my 4runner from radiator back to Tcase output i come up to about 75 inches and that would leave me a 3 inch driveshaft. SOOOOOO My question is, is the Toyota 20r with a 4 speed significantly shorter than the 5speed? It is going to be blasphemous for what I am creating but I want something differnt and i have a line on a 82 toyota truck that i may jsut put the yota axles under the jeep also.

yes it is shorter, but the L43 4spd is garbage....would not hold up very well to any kind of wheeling.
