I'm looking for anyone who can point me in the direction of somebody that can try and balance my rear driveshaft in Knoxville, or close by. It's beating me to death. If I can't get this fixed I'm just going to order a nice new one. Thanks for the help.

Have you had it off or bolts out for any reason? It must go back in the same configuration as it was removed.

Some tips on helping to isolate the problem:

And check your yellow pages for a local driveline shop if you need to get the shaft balanced (usually only needed if you somehow lost a welded-on balance weight or bent/damaged your existing shaft).

Thanks 4Crawler. I read all that before I posted. I have taken my slip yoke apart and tried to put it in every location and the driveshaft still vibrates the whole truck. I figured if I could take it to a pro, then maybe they could get it running smooth again. If you have any other advice, I'm listening.

this might be common sense to some but have you ck'd the u-joints? if they're worn you'll get a driveline vib. mine got so bad i couldn't see the traffic in the rear view mirror.

and your ujoints dont need to be bad by much to give you that annoying massage!

The reason this whole messs started was because I took the shaft out to put new gears in and while the shaft was out I took it to have new ujoint installed. Well, I think the tech that did my ujoint work, didn't put the slip yoke together properly and I can't find the correct location. I figured if I could get it on a lathe, we could either get it balanced or get it lined up correctly. Tanks for the input.

ditto on phasing the drive shaft. IF it started after having it apart, it is just out of phase. I had mine off by 180 degrees, and it nearly beat me to death. just pull the four bolts out of the third drive flange, and slide the slip yolk out, then turn both U joints to match the picture in the post above. It is pretty simple to do. You need it to be exact, if it is just off by a few teeth it will still vibrate. From what I read U joints vibrate by nature, but by phasing them they cancel each other out. Re grease everything when you are done, and enjoy your smooth new ride.
