drilling into canopea

sorry about the spelling of canopea but I was wondering if drilling into it would damage the fiber glass. Is there any special instuctions I need to follow?

If you have a 94 toyota 4runner your top and roof should be metal....first gens 84-89 had fiberglass tops.

If it's a truck, well then if your topper is fiberglass then ok....You should be able to drill into it, I'd be careful though.

Not sure what canopy you are referring to. If this is a 1st gen 4Runner, then I drilled mine to install a rear wind deflector. I used "well nuts" in blind holes for attachment. They are an expanding anchor with a rubber coating and seem to work well on the thick glass fiber shell. If a thinner shell/canopy, use a through-bolt and backing washer.

Im sorry its my pick up canopy. Im not blind drilling, I can get to the other side to attach the nut to the bolt. I dont want to crack the fiberglass by drilling into it I guess that is my question.

If the glass is well made - its fine.
If yer anal - Id radius the hole a tad and seal it with some GE Silicone II before the bolt and washers get inserted.

What are you bolting too the canopy?

I was going to bolt my new c/b antenna ball mount to it, decided to make a little bracket to fit between my canopy and the bed rail.

That will be a better setup all around:

You generally want the antenna in close proximity to the body sheet metal.
