Downey Super Clutch. Now What?

I had purchased and installed the Downey Super Clutch for my truck a couple years ago. My opinions, it worked great. Heavier flywheel, larger surface area, more grip, less strain on hydrolics. Now i'm swapping out the motor and was going to buy another kit just because everything was apart.

Well if you don't know, Downey is out of business. SUCKS! So now what?

Does anybody know if it was a certain combo of parts that made the Super Clutch? Like was it a turbo or v-6 or 3rz clutch and pressure plate that mounted to the Downey flywheel?

The way they sold it was it was a heavier/larger flywheel that was mated to a clutch disc and pressure plate that had 30% more surface area then stock clutch setups. This allowed more grip while keeping the clamping pressure for the clutch under the 680lb limit for the stock hydrolic assembly. And the heavier flywheel generated more inertia force in the drivetrain. Consider it artifical torque for a torqueless motor.

I stumbled upon this when I was having problems with my LC Engineering clutch kit. I was routinely replacing my clutch master and slave cylinders because they kept blowing out. The clamping force for the LCE was, I think, 740lbs.

Hopefully somebody knows the answer to this or at least point me in the right direction. My motor arrives Friday.

Now that I read that info on Marlin Crawler, I was waaay off with pressure plate ratings. Assuming that other people have used this clutch with no adverse effects with the increased pressure ratings, then I guess the junk Pep-Boys Master/slave cylinders are just junk and the real Aisin parts are the way to go?

I'm running a MC 1200lbs, and I like it

but if I'm not mistaken, the 1200lbs force MC is talking about is reffering to the pressure produced by the pressure plate against the clutch disc, not the pressure in the hyro system; 1200lbs with simply EXPLODE the master and slave cylinders, if the lines didn't go first

so that setup from Downey came with the flywheel and everything? why don't you try to take the flywheel and clutch disc down to a parts house and see if they have a new flywheel and disc in stock for a 22re and/or RET, that way you can compare them and maybe see if that's indeed what they used

Sounds like good things with the MC clutch and good idea with searching the stores for my match.

And yes it was a whole kit; flywheel, clutch, PP, bearing, and bushing. That's why i'd like to first find a mate for the heavy Downey flywheel. If not, I guess i'll bite the bullet and check out the MC kit.

I have the same problem, I have the Downey super clutch 1600lb grab and 1600 lb hold.
I went to Clutchmasters "they made the clutch for downey off road" and am trying to get the match but I do not want kevlar/steel as they rip up the flyweel in days. I have the heavy flywheel "9 lbs heavier than stock" and I am having a really hard time getting the set up that I want!!!!!
I want the 1600 lb initial grab and the 1600 lb hold !!!!!
I will resurface my old flywheel as it will not lose that much weight lol.

Any suggestions ????????????????????????????????

Please help me :-(
