door locks
I just had my door handle on my drivers side door fixed, it had been broken over a year. What am curious about is if it is supposed to unlock itself if I lock it with the door open and then close the door.

Yes. It must be a jap thing. my yota does it, and so does my '89 mazda b2200. (as i'm sure you knew) if you hold up on the handle when you shut the door, it will lock. It just becomes a habit after awhile and you never realize you're doing it.

mines a 93 and im pretty sure it does that, ill check it tomorrow when i pick it up and verify for you. i guess as long as the truck is running, it thinks someone is behind the wheel, if its shut off and you hit the lock button with the key in, it automatically unlocks.

I know on the first gen in order for the doors to lock you have to push down the lock and hold the handle up and shut the door. or else it will unlock itself.

On my '90 SR5 the locks will unlock with the key in the ignition, but all I have to do is hit the locks and shut the door, as long as the key is out of the ignition.
If you do need to lock your doors with the key in (like I did during my pizza delivery days in winter), just use another key, and lock the doors with the spare key (the doors will stay locked,as long as they are closed).
