Does this sound like a good deal?

So my dad recommended me mechanic who does really good work. My 93 needs some work, timing belt, valve cover seals, camshaft seals, i have coolant leaks, and the rear main seal. This guy wants to also do the headgaskets that way I dont have a problem with them any time soon since they arent the best on this engine. So this guy wants to drop my engine and do everything, using toyota factory parts all for 1200.00 does this sound like a good deal?

in a way it does, my suggestion would be ask him if you could help, that way, if anytime arrises when you need to do similar work yourself, it wouldnt be too dificult

i recently helped my mechanic do a clutch job on my truck, way outta my knowledge still, but i get the drift

Yeah i think im gonna go ahead and get it done just to have the assurance. I know the headgaskets blow easily on this truck but i should be good for atleast another 75,000 after this right?

That sounds like a good deal as long as it's real Toyota parts. I just got quoted 1000, for just labor, to fix head gasket.

That is a good deal, definetly worth doing. My buddy is a mechanic and I help him do some of the work and I still get some hefty labor charges.

Just my 2cents

Yep that is a very good deal especially for all those parts. About to do a rebuild on a 3VZ-E from a 90' 4runner myself, customer is paying 800+parts for me to replace rod and main bearings plus seals and headgaskets, and this is something that im just doing out of my own personal shop not under employment. 1200 is a very reasonable price ditto on having the clutch done while hes down there replacing the rear main also.

Make sure he replaces the headbolts. Consider doing some valve work while you're in there.

Is he resurfacing the heads? I'm not sure if this is a necessity, but I did mine when I did my headgaskets, just to be safe. Think it only cost about $120 from a local machine shop.

I would definitely consider getting your fuel injectors cleaned as well. Cost about 60 dollars for me, and they were flowing absolutely terrible. I think it was a main cause of my poorly running 3.0
