for all of you guys that have sas on their trucks. does this ride worse than stock IFS? i have a toyota pickup extended cab with 4 inch suspension and 3 inch body rolling 37 inch iroks. the torsion bars are as loose as they will go and the a arms are flat but it still doesnt ride very good and i REALLY want to do the sas on my truck. the biggest selling point will be it riding as good or better as my IFS.

o and i wanna be able to clear a 38 and i will be keeping the body lift so the suspension will probably be about 5 or six inches

it depends widely on your setup.. springs you choose, tires, steering setup
to be honest it probly wont ride real nice but i have a stock sfa so maybe someone will chime in whos had a sas

havent done the sas yet but im planning on running 325/85-16 michelin xmls with tg 4" front lift springs and chevies in the rear.

WOW 37's on IFS get a SAS NOW your gonna break everything IFS wise wheelin! To anyone who disagrees I dont care dude ride wise its harder but on the trails its gonna be hard regardless so whats the issue? It will out perform IFS on the trails (if your a competent wheeler) They can drive just as good as IFS IMO and I have experience with both! yes harsher more skechy ride feel but come on really??? SAS it is the way to go. Its worth the "different" ride for you! Take it slow with any lifted truck. Allpro make some great springs with a great ride quality which I DD'd and Trailed my rig with. Mine was tall so word of advise... keep it low with some 3" springs (max 4") you dont need much and you can clear the 37's keep it low and have great street-ability and DD qualities. IFS will always be softer and better street wise but with 37's dude go SAS!

Also Search cause there are so many different kits with different prices its finding the best deal and best parts. Marlin, Trail-gear, allpro, just to name a few

My buddy just SAS'd is his 87 runner and is convinced it's smoother than the IFS..

So many factors.... He took leafs out of his 5" all pro leafs.. so its "spongier" i guess.... w/ bilsteins.

If you put stiff shocks on your stock IFS with cranked torsions (or uncranked) the ride can be rough..

the ride quality really depends on the shocks and how "loose" the suspension really is.

IFS or Solid Axle.... it can be the same or very different. To many factors to say whether IFS or SAS is smoother honestly.

You could always run at a little lower tire pressure. I'm convinced my 4Runner rides like a BMW at 20psi, unfortunately, the handling is BMW-like at 20psi.

Lets not even mention fuel economy at lower tire pressure.

I don't have an issue with ride quality after my SAS. I would guess most passengers would not even notice unless I pointed it out to them.

Straight hits like speedbumps are worse than with IFS. Overall for pushing tires as big as you are looking to do I think a SAS will ride and perform much better.

My 4Runner is pretty heavy though and I think that does make a difference. As others have said, shocks and tires will also make a big difference in ride quality.

If your plan is to run a 3" BL with 5-6" of suspension lift your on road performance is going to really suffer due to the high COG. Then again, your trail performance will suffer much more.... which begs the question, do you want 37" IROC's for looks or performance?

If for trail, you should really try and stay with about 4" of lift and start remvoing the sheet metal that's in the way to stay as low as possible.

All depends on execution ... a WELL done SAS can be a Caddy on the road ... a poorly done SAS can put you in the hospital (or a grave).

Where do you live? What kind of 'wheeling do you do? Why do you "need" 38's?

I just put a trail-gear ifs iliminator kit on my truck and i would have to say the ride is ten times better than ifs. i got five inch springs front and rear with bilstein 5150 14'' travel shocks. i also have a 2'' body lift and could easily fit 37's. i have a v6 and run on 35's. my buddy let me drive his 91 with the same kit only 3'' springs front and rear on 38'' boggers(miner fender trimming) and it even took bumps in the road better than my ifs. SAS the only way to go.

my truck was never an IFS but i have owned a couple ifs toys and i would say my chevy /RUF suspension rides better than not only the stock strait axle but the ifs trucks i have owned too. i mean it is no caddy with 39.5 TSL's but it does pretty good and i set my truck up a little on the stiff side compared to most becasue i dont really need crazy flex or anything and i didn't want the body roll to be as bad.

for what is is worth i put about 6" of overall lift on and 39.5x15-R15 and i like how it sits. had to do some fender trimming, well more than some but when you move the axle 3" forward it is always necesarry. I didn't have to do anything with the fire wall though. The limiter for me is the stock bed with the fuel filler in the fender well if i got rid of that i could lose an inch or two and still be fine with 40's.

I would cut and keep it lower, you will be alot happier!

IFS vs SFA or SAS ride quality assuming all stock. IFS wins on road (the only place ride quality really matters). But if you wheel SFA is the way to go and with a little tweaking you can find a nice Spring Compression Rate that will give you a very smooth ride

when i first got my '86..it rode like a chuck wagon..stiff as a board...even with the radial's on it..i put my swampers on..and it was worse..then i took out the sway bar...and its incredible..the ride up front is great..not like a caddy..but definately better than it was with the swaybar..so make sure your sway bar is disconnected...it doenst create too much body roll..of course my rig is stock suspension..yours isnt...just a thought..lol
