Do your backup lights don't work?

If so check this out.
My backup lights have not worked since god nows when..
so today I finally drag my ass under the truck and look around for the reverse switch thing (2 prong switch that sticks out from the tranny)
on mine it was on the passenger side, very easily to see.
At first I could see that the plug was only halfway on, so I think "oh yeah, easy fix" so I plug it all the way in, put my key to the "on" possison and put her in reverse, go to the back of the truck.. nothing.

So okay, I crawl back under the truck and kinda think for a second.
I then realize that the switch can go on upside down and you cant tell the difference.
So I flip the wire around and plug it back in and what do I see when I go to the back end of the truck?
My reverse lights work!!

So if anyone has has tranny work and since then the reverse lights dont work, try this, its pretty easy to mess up the switch since it plugs in perfectly right side up or upside down, so the shop might have plugged it in upside down

My lights come on as soon as I shift into reverse.
Wether the truck is running or not (key in start position)

Mine work, well I guess thats what you can call it......Now actually lighting up whats behind me........well thats the problem. Our reverse lights sucks....I just installed a set of 55w Hellas on the back of my roof rack, that took care of the problem. It also gets rid of tailgaters real quick at night!

I am doing the same thing
going to mount 2 offroad lights on my rear bumper (need to find a good spot) so
1. I can see whats behind me
2. a quick flash and no more tailgaters

I have the same problem, I checked the bulbs and they were fine. Is there a separate fuse for the backup lights ? Any pics showing the location of the plug you spoke of ?

If you're gonna use Gods name it should be with a capital letter. Unless it doesn't mean anything to you then Nevermind.

Excuse me, since when was this a religious forum? That's "offtopic" and an issue that could be taken elsewhere or kept to oneself.....instead of judging and getting all righteous...or something like that.

I did my homework and realised that the fuse for the "reverse" is riding the same fuse as the turn signal. So if the flashers work, then the fuse is not the problem.

BTW, I checked for the plug near the transmission and only found a 4-prong that leaves the trans to go on the exhaust (a sensor/probe). That must not be the one ?

I did the same thing with the same lights. Those lights work real well. Getting rid of tailgaters...works every time.

Would that be the "reverse" light connector that should be coming out of the tranny ? This one was found on the front, passenger-side.
