distributor question

does anyone know what the un threaded hole is in the bottom of the distributor on a 22re? if you take the cap off and look into the distributor, its in the bottom and you see the valve cover on the other side. it looke like its just a casting hole type thing, as the ear of the distributor that the bolt you loosen to adjust timing goes through is hollow, and it seems as if this hole leads into that hollow cavity behind that ear. reason being is i was sealing my distributor with silicone, and i got some down in that hole, i am just worried that it leads into an oil passage or something. i doubt it because the shaft bearing is sealed, and it was already open to the outside and to the inside of the distributor, so i wouldnt think oil should flow through that passage or anything.
any opinions, ideas, or thoughts are welcome. thanks in advance.

It just allows air in and out of the distributor, i wouldn`t seal it.
