Is is ok to leave this hose unattached? When I remove this hose on my distributor the idle goes down to 1,500 but it stays at 2,000 if I keep it hooked up. I know this is still really high, but 1500 is better than 2000. I've tried spraying carb-cleaner on hoses to find a vacuum leak but I cant find one. Heres a video. Any help would be very appreciated. Both hoses need to be connected to the distributor for the vacuum advance to work properly. Your real problem lies else were, it could be a vacuum leak or a problem with the carb.

ok, I'll leave those hoses connected, do you think rebuilding my carb would help?

Have you checked for vacuum leaks ?, and what about the carb it self, are you sure that the linkage is free and not sticking causing the high idle ?. If all else fails you can try rebuilding it and see if that fixes the problem.

Yes I have checked for vacuum leaks but I couldnt find any. I dont think the linkage is the problem b/c when I first start it up it idles fine, then after 10 to 20 sec. later idle goes up and every once in a while there is a small surge.

Is this problem something that just started happening one day or has it been going on for a while ?. If there are no vacuum leaks, are you sure that all of the vacuum lines are hooked up right ?.

It just started happening one day, The first month of owning the truck it idled fine. Then it started getting hard to start after riding around a while, I would ride around, come home and turn the truck off, then I would go back out to start the truck and all it would do was turn over. In order to get it started I had to hold the gas pedal to the ground then it would start. It doesnt do that anymore but now I have this idle problem. Im gonna take the truck to my uncles and see if he can help me, I dont know that much about carbs and he's a really good mechanic.

check the 3 wire connector on the carb make sure the connections on the wires are proper. I had a problem like that and it was one of those wires backing out of the connector. Those wires are for the choke, outer vent control valve and the idle shut-off solenoid. Sounds to me that the choke is sticking and keeping you on the high idle cam. maybe because the choke isn't getting power to heat the coil. Which might explain why you have to put your pedal to the floor as this actually slightly opens the secondary butterfly allowing more air to flow into the carb.
