distributor help!!

i have an 88 toyota pickup with a 22re and i need to know the air gap for my truck please help! i cleaned the distributor cause it had corrosion and took that magnetic thing out to clean it and now i need to know the correct gap and how to gap it. i also made sure it was 5 degrees BTDC. please help! thanks!!

Search yotatech for fsm. Its pretty straight forward in the service manual.

I don't know if it's in the haynes, but you should be able to find the fsm online.

I'll let someone else chime in here with the link, as I have a 1991 and the link I use is http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-buchanan/93fsm/

If this one also covers your year (I do't think so, I think it starts from 89) good, otherwise, try this link --> http://daemon4x4.org/portal/downloads.php?dcid=17 it has several fsm's, find the one that says 4runner/hilux for 1988.

i cant find it cause those websites aint working but all its doin is when i try to start it it backfires real loud but never actually starts

To be honest there can be many reasons for your problem. Have you checked timing? Start from there.

I Fixed it the timing was off 180 degrees so it runs perfect now I have all the power from the engine that I should have because it was sluggish to begin with but now it runs good thanks for the advice!
