Differences in T/O Bearing (Forward Shift vs Top Shift)
Hey fellas,
Recently I had my trans go out in my 86 4runner 22re. I have a replacement. The replacement is a forward shift variation of the w56. The old trans is a top shift.
Will the old T/O bearing assembly work on the new forward shift trans? The first pic is the top shift T/O bearing assembly. Basically goes together from the bottom up (Hub / plastic spacer / bearing press fit / cover). When I look online to purchase a replacement bearing I am seeing different T/O bearing assemblies. See second/third attachment. The ID of the second is the same but it is quite different overall.
So should I just get a replacment bearing and press it on or go with one of the newer assemblies?
One other thing.... will the old top shift clutch fork work with the new forward shift setup?
Thanks for the input.
