Exclamation Differences between 85 and 87 22re?

i have a 87 4runner with a warped block, i may be getting a wreced 85 pickup and i was told tht their might be differences between the 2 engines.

I found some differances from another engine i had but i do not know if it was just mainly because it was a 22r or because it was and 85.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will need to swap all the sensors and the injectors over to the new engine, otherwise its mostly the same.

all 85-95 engines were the same except for the way each one was controlled. WHen comparing a 22r to a 22R and a 22RE to a 22RE. ie different sensors, different ecu's etc etc. As long as you keep the old sensors from the old motor and transfer them to the new motor you should not have any problems.

Now where you will get into issues is if your going to/from an 85-95 22RE and 85-95 22R.

Converting an RE to a carburated R is a little easier than swapping in an RE into an R truck. This mainly because of the differences in the wiring harnesses.

You are pretty vague in what your asking here and not sure if the 85 engine your getting from the wrecked truck is a 22r or 22re. I know your sig says your 87 has the 22re in it.

Yep. Might do a tune up while the motor is out as well and perhaps a timing chain, water pump tstat.

The deck height on the block is different. So the timing covers are different.

yes all the timing chains etc from 85-95 were all the same. 81-82 were dual row with the taller deck height, 83-84 were the same deck height as the 81-82 but only had a single row.

no, you can easily tell when ordering anything timing related or heads. They all say 85-95.
