It'd be nice if you'd give some specs...

The first thing that comes to mind is you have your valve lash to tight. That will cause the 22r's or 22re's to sound like that.

But it could be anything...We need info.

You lose a couple studs on your exhaust manifold?
Leaking exhaust somewhere?

Sounds like your muffler bearings need replaced.

yeah you prob have an exhaust leak. although on my 22re it sounds like a powerstroke until it builds oil pressure. stupid timing chain.

Maybe timing is too far advanced and it's pinging really bad?

while you check your muffler bearing, make sure to check your blinker fluid. haha. just kidding

prolly got a rod knock.
