Diagnostic code 12. Knock sensor?
So from reading up here, I learned how to jumped the diagnostic terminals to get the CEL to flash. I got 12 flashes. All data told me it was a knock sensor.
Where do I go from here...lol
Does that mean the sensor itself is bad, or there is something causing it to read wrong?
What's the procedure after the diagnosis?
Thanks
Edit: After reading up a little bit here and on http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...es/index.shtml I realize it could be multiple things, not just the knock sensor?

According to the 1988 manual here: http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/index.html , the 22R-E has 2-digit diagnostic codes, and only the 22R-TE has the single stream (in other words, the 22R-E would blink once, then twice for Code 12, and the 22R-TE would slowly blink 12 times). Are you sure you're reading the code correctly?
If you do have a code for the knock sensor, it tells you only that the computer is not receiving the signal it should be receiving. As it turns out, the least likely cause of that is the knock sensor itself, the most likely is the pigtail, and the rest is the wiring is in between.
Spend a little time browsing the Service Manual; you'll be glad you did. (FI-23)

I wanted to bump this because I just got another pigtail and wire from a buddy. I think Im going to get a knock sensor from the junk yard any ways. Both pigtails arent connecting on the sensor itself. I think the plastic part that sticks up on the sensor is broken. I dunot know. Im going to figure some stuff out this week

87 22re, right? If so, 12 consecutive blinks is Knock Sensor on your rig.
If the connector is backing out, etc., it could be your problem. I yoinked on mine, accidentally, while messing with the Oil Sending unit(I had to re-do the connector for the Oil Sender).
The knock sensor is a single wire connector, should be yellow, and if you find it's backing off/out of the housing, .....that could be a problem.
Best wishes, Skoti!
PS> If you find other threads, like Rogers, suggesting you check several other things that are related to Knock Sensor warnings... well, then check it out, right? lol.
