diagnostic code 10

That can show up if you manually jump start the truck by hitting the starter solenoid with power directly. Basically is telling you the ECU did not see the start signal from the ignition key. May be something else, too. But clear the code and if it does not come back, that may have been the cause.

Bringing back a not to long dead thread:
I have the same code in my 86 4Runner, I have put the starter on a toggle switch as the key was not kicking it over anymore. I initially thought it was the clutch switch but it has repeatedly checked good, I have added an additional relay before the starter relay and that did help for a while but eventually it would not turn over and hence the toggle switch.
I guess my question is is it bad for the truck to have this code? The CE light is NOT on so there shouldn't be a smog issue but it DOES seem to need to crank longer before it starts. I have gotten in the habit of holding the key in the start position before switching on the starter but doesn't seem to make a difference.

You said your truck has this code.....code 10.....and yet the CEL is not on? Would you mind clarifying that a bit?
There's an old thread around here on how to troubleshoot the entire IG system. I'll have to see if I can find it.

Its exactly that. Initially I was chasing down a stuttering problem which turned out to be the TPS of course, anyway I thought I'd put the jumper in the connector under the hood and see if any codes came up and sure enough it flashed a code 10. My thinking is that this is not a Fault so that is why the CL did not come on.

Have you tried clearing it, yet?
I haven't found the thread I referred to. I've been at work, so I'll try tomorrow if you are interested.....??

No haven't cleared it yet and it would probably just come back starting the truck off of a switch anyway instead of the key. I am 99% sure that my ignition switch is faulty as I used to be able to get it to start by turning it to the start position and then kind of lifting up but now that doesn't work anymore either.
Don't worry about the thread, if I need the info I should be the one to search for anyway. I ain't one of those people that waste everybody's time asking questions without even trying to figure it out on their own.
