Dent Dilemma. 1987 4Runner

1987 4Runner, got a pretty bad punch in under the right rear tailight as shown in pics...
I was thinking of having sheet metal plates built at my dads shop to cover the area, after cleaning it out, and wrapping around towards the front a foot or so. Added off road protection and dent repair.
What in the humble opinion of YT is the best way of getting rid of this dent?
Thanks
-Jaren

hmm.. my first thought is cut, chop, weld and rebuild, if you are going to the trouble to make plates I'd cut out and replace.

It needs a quarter panel. Either cut and section
in a piece from a used runner...or I'm sure the
fiberglass guy will be in here selling his wares to you soon enough. He makes a nice fiberglass replacement panel at a reasonable price and there will be no need to weld it. They glue on.

I feel your pain, maybe a little worse even. In the process of fixing mine now, opted to cut & weld in new sheet metal from a rig that was being parted out. These pics should make you feel a little better about yours. LOL

Damage

Cut out

Replacement quarter panel

Thats as far as I have gotten. I need a day off or 2 to finish.

Ouch!!! what happened to her yotarob? Poor baby.
If someone hit me and did that....I'd beat them
terribly...despite an assault charge.

If you did it yourself...kick yourself in the jimmy.

I don't want to thread jack to OP too bad but it was sorta my fault, mainly for replacing the brakes and not upgrading them when I had the chance. Put myself in a bad situation on the trail and realized that the brakes would not hold the truck. You can get more details and pics in my build thread. Either way I am mad enough about it already & have no plans to kick myself in the jimmy.

Thanks guys!
Majority is cut old out, weld new in.
Yotarob, if you could PM me some more details of the process you are going through, since it's almost exactly what I need to do, thanks!

If you have body damage in the middle of the panel by the edge of the tail light can you use the bed side from a truck bed tail light area to replace the damaged area on a 4Runner ?.

This truck is not my DD, I have an 05 Tacoma I drive everyday. This rig is not even street legal, just bought it to wheel!!
