CV Joints, Bad?

I have been hearing a rattle, noise, metal, something sound in my front end for a some time now. I hear it when I go over bumps usually. I was under the truck today (88 4runner V6) trying to find where the noise is coming from. I grabbed the CV Boot and shook it a little and I hear the noise. Does this mean the CVs are bad? I can move them quite a bit. The CVs on our 94 Pickup do the same thing and she has the similar sound in her truck also.

Thanks.

One quick and easy way to tell if the CV joints are bad is when you do a slow full wheel turn. If you hear any clicking in either direction, then the CV joints should be looked at, and probably replaced.

And I see that you sell those. I need them, but they're not at the top of my list yet. Pretty cheap I geuss. I only need 2 right? Maybe I will get some this month.

Those are for a SFA, not IFS. And you only need (1) each side. The old ones are REAL fun to get out too.

Ah well, I'll find me some eventually. I've gotten used to that annoying sound, goes away for a while when I slap some grease in there. Nothing critical anyway, sounds worse than it is. It's done it the entire time I've owned it, a little more than 2 years.

have a look in the tech section for toyota_mdt_tech's spindle greaser. don't bother replacing the bushings because from what i understand they'll just wear like the old ones did unless you grease them every now and again. seeing as you need to grease the old ones now and again anyways, it seems like it's just a lot of time, money, and effort for no real gain
