Cross country move with 90 pickup
I'm tryin to put my mind at ease. I'm driving a 90 22 r from Maryland to Colorado in two weeks. I've had no problems with it, save for needing a new vac advance. Hunting for suggestions for things to be wary of/general advice. Taking her in for a tune on Monday.
Thanks!!

Bring spare belts if yours are a little old. They are a cheap insurance.
All the other basics like fluids and tire pressure. Check spare, bring along some fluids. Pretty much it..oh and tools!

How about (and since you said 22R):
- fuel filter
- radiator hoses, including the one connected to the underside of the intake manifold. Mine was the original hose and was very, very soft and thin.
- tune up, as you said,
- change the transmission fluid, manual or auto.
- change the differential fluid.
- if you can, buy a used working ignitor. Most ignition related non-spark, stems from the ignitor going dead. Even a used one is not cheap, though. Before I bought my new ignitor, I bought a used one locally. It was around $100.

How do you plan on driving a nice easy trip taking like 3 days or nonstop it is those nonstop trips that like to do interesting things.
Extra belts and hoses and fluids are a given. If this vehicle is not used on long trips a few hours at a time.
It is interesting that once the engine has really soaked up the heat I have seen oil consumption really increase something to keep an eye on .
I even had spark plugs vibrate loose on one trip. another time I had lug nuts vibrate loose. It did not help I was very tired.
It is all well and good things happen just make sure if they do you have enough people supplies to be comfortable waiting to be rescued.:jessica:
AAA plus or towing on your insurance. I have heard bad things about AAA from the vendors end .
I have found anymore a good LED headlight makes night repairs so much easier being able to see if only to check the oil and things. Now one lives in all the vehicles I drive with extra batteries.
Have a safe trip!!:jessica:

thanks for the reassurances! i generally try and tell myself that driving on 70 for 1600 miles is about equivalent to driving around baltimore for 160, wear and tear wise.

two years ago i drove my 90 from alaska to miama, via washington, oregon, california, the four corners, texas, LA, etc. and then, a few months later the return trip, via the east coast to DC, southern ontario, ohio, 'cross IN, IL, MI, MN and up the alcan. if you are not a mechanic, have your mechanic check it out—suspension, brakes, basic engine stuff—valves are set ok, good ignition, oil, other fluids, etc. don't drive 100mph. don't rabbit starts, etc. enjoy the adventure. and, remember, any problem can be solved, all it takes is money...

i did east texas to california in a 79 hylux which had spent 10 yrs in a field after a burn took out much of the rubber (i drove it out of the field on rims) driving it loaded to 3/4 of a ton the saddle bearing was shot carb filled with deposits clutch missing a 1/5 of the friction material
that being said take a couple quarts of oil they over charge at gas stations along the freeway, roll of electrical tape a small field kit of tools (popular Toy sizes) a small handfull of wire, tire pressure gauge, couple of hose clamps, the triple A is also a good idea for anything you cant fix on the side of the road

Welp, pre-trip inspection found my front brakes were gone and I needed new sway bar bearings. So there's $800 (some of that's inspection plus oil change). Couldn't find anything else wrong.
