Crazy Starter Battery Idea
Ok, so I made a "slight" upgrade to my stereo, and it has the rated potential to pull >120 amps. 2nd battery time.
Now, it's for a stereo, not a winch, so I'm leaving a large deep cycle dedicated sole to the stereo. This uses up my stock battery location. I have the 22RE. OE battery was rated at 325 CCA's. Replacement batteries "recommended" at the parts stores are between 500 and 550 CCA's. I've read that the 22RE only pulls ~150 amps when turning over. Mine starts easily, and the outside temp where I live rarely ever sees freezing temps.
What I'd like to do is fab a small battery tray longways near the underhood fuse box. I've found a motorcycle battery at Wally World that is rated for 300 CCA's. Would this work on a daily basis?
I know I could special order a "racing" battery at about the same size, but those run about four times as much money. Willing to spring for it, but wondering if I really need to...
Once started, would the Wally battery support headlights and A/C? Am I on crack here?
PS- Yes, an isolator is a given. Stock alternator sufficient with an extra battery, as recommended by Boyle's Future Tech (was HONEST when he probably could have sold me an alternator, THANKS BOYLES!).
Moral of the diatribe: Is a "racing" battery necessary, or would the Wally World battery work?
