Could these two cel codes be related??

Code is 42 for the VSS, and code is 12 for RPM signal... Could these two be related? It's weird because I swapped out my cluster for another one to check to see if the problem was in the cluster and still got both codes after ecu reset. My speedometer works and my tachometer works also my distributer is less than a year old. Any input? Could my ECU just be going bad? I pulled it just to look for any signs of water damage or leaking capacitors and everything looked great. So idk where to start.
