Could my high idle be related to a cooler temperature thermostat?

About a year and a half ago while trying to chase down an engine pinging problem I installed a 180* thermostat to try and keep the temps down. (This of course being 15* cooler than the stock thermostat of a 22r) Now, with the truck running at operating temperature the needle is about 1/4 of the way up the temperature gauge, as opposed to half. While recently doing some routine maintenance on the truck I noticed that I cannot get it to idle any less than about 1100 RPM once it is at operating temperature. It also smells as if it is running quite rich. Could these two symptoms be caused by the choke not disengaging due to the fact that the operating temperature is now 15* lower? Keep in mind that this engine is a 22r not a 22re. Thanks.

on a 22r a lower temp thermostat isn't gonna have any affect on anything as far as idle goes. As there is no sensors telling the engine to adjust timing, idle etc etc.

Now on the choke part, engine temp does affect that choke a little, but the thermostat shouldn't affect it as the 12volt supply has more of an affect then the temp of the engine does. For example, you could have the engine not running in the morning go out there turn the key not start it for like 15 to 20 minutes with key on and the choke will disengage because the coil has been heated up solely on power. This is assuming the choke is adjusted properly and isn't too tight which would cause the throttle to be stuck on the first step of the choke. If you haven't messed with the choke adjustment it's not gonna be too tight, if anything it would be too loose.

Almost always a high idle on a carb'd truck is caused by either vacuum leak or timing being too far advanced. Some cases it can be a malfunction in the choke itself most likely due to the lack of 12v to it. You can check that with a volt meter. Another thing that can cause it is some sort of binding in the throttle linkage or a frayed cable. You can check that by physically shutting the throttle by hand.
