Coolant Smell

Aloha all,

I've been search but haven't found a thread but when I run the A/C on my 1993 Yota Hilux 4x4 with a 22RE engine, it works fine and gets down to 36 degrees. When I run the a little heat or heat all the way, the inside cab gets filled with coolant odor. Would this be the heater core that needs replacing?

I would check the hose connections at the fire wall and make sure there isn't a leak that is some how letting coolant inside the cab. The metal hoses should be sticking far enough into the engine bay to keep that from happening but it is possible.

Check your carpet and see if there is any dampness is another sign of a leaking heater core. Do you get a fog on your windshield?

The following thread is for 84-88 https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...4-88-a-278925/ but to remove the dash on an 89-94 you start at the passenger side and work your way over to the drivers side. It will show some steps that apply to your truck and most will be the same when you get to the heater core.
