Cooked head gaskets

Driving home from work my truck finally went POOF! and made a huge cloud of steam and smoke out the tailpipe. I made it home (4mi) w/out the temp gauge going into the red. I wanted to do the 3.4 swap but there seems to be a shortage of reasonably priced 5spd 3.4s in my area so I'm just goinna fix the 3.0. Couple questions.... what valve guides are stock in the truck, cast? I don't think 8 ea for silicon bronze guides is necessary, but I wanna hear opinions. Second, anything funky I need to watch out for when doing this job? Third what issues do 3.0 heads usually have that I should look for while the head is off, and is ok to machine the head and reuse it? Sorry if the questions seem silly but Toyota is new to me previous experience was vw and bmw. Thanks in advance--ROB
