AFAIK no.
the trans computer needs "lots" of imputs that im fairly shure are hosed if you dump the EFI system (ie TPS, speed sensor, and who knows what else) Your in for a nighmare if you ask me.

You would need a dist & coil/ignitor from a carb engine. Try to find a manual trans. Prob cost you more to try to get an auto to work than to buy a stick.

I am not sure about the trans but you will need a carb intake and the carb distributor. Then you should be good. You may be able to buy a box that will run the trans but I don't know why you would want to auto anyway. It makes the 22re a dog...

EFI Question
OK, so doing away with the EFI is fairly easy, but if i run the auto trans that requires the computer, what can i eliminate from the efi that does not really need to be there, this truck will be off road only, i want to simplify thing if this is possible. Thanks

Off road only? you want to keep your EFI....better at an incline. I've been with too many carb jeep/yota to tell you that it's not fun waiting for them to start up again at an incline.

-learn to drive a stick
-convert your 22r block to a 22re version. while first gen EFI wasnt great i still belive its heads and tails better than a carb my expertise is only on the 89 and above stuff so i dont have much to add for the auto behind a 22r. (if one existed)

There is no such thing as "removing stuff that does not need to be there". The trans most likley needs the TPS, AFM, Temperature as well as maybe a pulse from the distributor to know what and when to shift.
It may work without any wires but I would assume that it won't. just my 2cents |

Things to consider:
carb intake manifold fuel pump distributor coil ignitor exhaust manifold (02 sensors) radiator/tranny cooler shift linkage sender/vacuum plugs in manifold/head and so on and so forth... There is absolutely no reason to convert from EFI to carb on these trucks! You're better off buying a complete engine or even a different truck entirely. |
