I want to replace the diesel engine in my LJ78 Land cruiser with a gas engine. The diesel engine has been rebuilt twice and I am fed up.

The plan is to buy a older 4Runner and transfer the engine and all that foes with it. The problem I have is that no body wants to touch it because of the problem of switching the wiring. A mechanic that I deal with would switch engines if I use an engine with a carburetor. A 22R engine would match up with my A343F transmission but I have a hard time locating one.

Aperson has come forward interested in buying the old diesel engine for parts so he can fix his 2L engine, what he has suggested was if I could not get a 22R engine go with a 22RE and remove the fuel injection system and replace it with a carburetor. Is this possible and what problems would i have? Could this be done with the 6cyl 3VZE?

It would actually be easier to put in the 22re rather than the 22r.
If you can get a complete car the loom is easily separated from the car and transferred into a new car. There have been some write ups about swapping from carb to efi.

The problem I have is I can not find anyone who will switch the engine and the wiring, the people i have talked to have said they had to work for days trying to figure out what went where.

if there is any links to someone who has done it let me know.

do it yourself the nice thing about toyota plugs apart from injectors they are all different and if two are the same next to each other thay are different colors. it would only take you about 8 hours as a rookie to swap and plug it all in at the most. however you will need a fuel pump so if you find a donor car take the gas tank too. oh and if you want someone to take that 2lt off your hands dibs

What kind of shop are you going to? It sounds like it might be some sort of old timer back yard shop that is afraid of wiring, if guys on here can swap motors over in their trucks than a professional mechanic that does it for a living should be able to no problem. I agree with blake, if you are having that much trouble just do it yourself, I think you would end up being happier with an EFI motor.

The wiring harness merging can be made so much easier by getting the Toyota Electrical manual for your vehicle and the vehicle the engine comes out of.

It is not hard you just need to take your time.

There was a very concise write up on pirate 4x4 that I used for my conversion.
But if you have the money you can get a megasquirt and make the job half as hard.

is there a difference in a carbureted cam and fuel injected cam . or will a fuel injected cam E303 work in a carbureted 302
