confused in reading FSM ECM ECU connectors

I've got a 91 manual delux 22re.

Previous owner dropped in a rebuilt motor.

The mileage is very bad. ~ 12-13 mpg

I've checked out the TPS (fine) and bought a new o2 sensor, but I'm thinking I didn't do a good job in checking the o2 wires. I'm going back with a bit more discipline in checking connections and wires. However....

I don't have an FSM for a 91.

I feel really dumb asking this. How do I interpret which side is up for this picture:

Is the top side the clips? I see that the bottom picture is for Turbo.

I just get confused in how to orient myself to the picture.

Now this picture is actually the wrong connectors for my ECU. Mine is a 10p, 18p, 14p and it's model # is 89661-35630

I found an online FSM for an 88 that appears to have the 10p, 18p, 14p set up.

Red face

Has someone swapped in a different year engine??

You need to find the EWD for the ECU that you have others might have the same plugs but be wired different.

Just remember the pictures are with you looking like you are plugging in the other half of the plug.

The top is always toward the top of the page in all the EWD`s I have seen

Yup, that's my trouble. I suppose I could call the dealership and ask them from which year my ECU comes.

So if I understand you correctly, that picture of the schematic is a picture of the ECU itself, and the connector plugs would be in my hand. If so, this helps.

cheers.

Just called the dealership who confirmed that my ECU is from either a 91 or a 92.

I have not had much luck in finding an FSM for that year.
