hey...

what's the name for the coolant hose/vaccuum component located middle of the head intake manifold between #2 and #3 cylinder... just put my rebuild in and the two bolt flange on the bottom of this component is slowly dripping!! think i need to take the whole intake off to get to this! need to make sure i have all the gaskets to rebuild before i start, so trying to figure out what to ask for... thanks!

is this the thermostatic valve??? what ddoes this do anyway? mine is not hooked upto any vaccuum lines...

I think the intake manifold gasket is what seals that section.



or are you talking about on top of the intake manifold itself? Which would originally had been for the EGR but is not converted to the PCV hose due to your weber install.

oh hahah that thing the BVSV, not needed either remove it and plug it or just cap it off so when the valve opens it doesn't cause a vacuum leak. That one I believe controlled either the EGR or the back side of the dizzy which is no longer used with the weber. .

thanks for the quick response XXX... i'm leaking from the bottom side of this unit, where the metal hose connects, a different 2 bolt flange, very hidden... not leaking at the head...

it's a 22r, him saying thermostatic valve threw me off.

thats the metal hose gasket i'm going after!!! what is the unit missing from the photo that connects this hose to the head? for knowledges sake... its a 22r and i'm guessing i have to remove the intake, or at least it will be easier that way

anyways....follow that link I gave ya.....there is "supposed" to be a little rubber ring that wraps around that small protrusion of pipe.....I did NOT have a new one but the old one was still there....so I just slathered FIPG or something like that like maybe GRAY RTV and called it good. Lining it up was a total PITA.....lots of cursing but finally got it by holding it perfectly with vice grips.

Gasket: still working on it. Have to find the dang heater hose diagrams. Cus that's where that pipe goes.

This is an old thread but it's something I'm dealing with right now. The diagram above showing part "11185 COVER" is, I think, accurate. That cover bolts onto the head, and its bottom surface bolts onto a metal coolant pipe that snakes around the back of the engine and connects to a flexible hose that rises to what I assume is an in-cab heater unit junction.

This part is a pain to get at, requiring full intake manifold removal unless you have some kind of super tiny ratchet.

On EM-36 line#4 of my FSM (1985 22R pickup), this component is called the "thermostatic valve" and is torqued to 16ftlb. The gasket that goes between it and the head is sometimes integral with the intake manifold head gasket. I just cut individual new gaskets for each part of this intake side of the head. This "thermostatic valve" (not to be confused with the thermostat, housed nearby on the intake manifold itself) attaches to the above-mentioned metal coolant pipe. I put a new rubber o-ring in this joint and used black RTV (that's what's handy!) and bolted it together. I would have put a custom-cut paper gasket in there but I made and ripped two on the spot, so decided to skip it.
