compatable parts 85 PU to 86 4runner

I've got an 85 PU 22r I've put some work into and recently threw a rod and now its out of service. I'm thinking of buying one of two first gen EFI IFS 4runners (can't find an efi 85 in good shape) and am wondering what I can effectively steal from the 85, I'm hoping everything

I believe the Xfer cases point in totally differant directions right? So I cant use the 85 case till I SAS. What about steering, I've got marlins histeer with 6 shooters, can I just leave the IFS box in place and the axle as is, bolt it up along with the 85 trans/Xfer and start rolling?

the 85 and 86 have the exact same running gear, assuming both are EFI or both are Carbbed.

If one is EFI and the Other is carbed, the transmissions and cases will be different, but all toyota 4x4's are pass side drop between 79-95.

You can just leave the steering box in place (im assuming you have crossover steering?) but you will need to change the pitman arm accordingly.

Yes you can they are differnet as the carb tranny has the shifter mounted in the trans and the efi is on the transfer case or vice vesa cant recall right now. They are differnt transmissions as they efi puts out more HP than the carb and toyota put a slightly heaver trans for all that extra power!!

EFI Cases are top shift, Carb cases are Forward shift. Just re-use your EFI trans and case. That way you dont have to modify your floor for the different shifters.

As for extra power, thats not true. The carbed trans is just as strong as the EFI case, with both using gear drives.

I've already got the wide axle on the truck so thats no big deal.

Its all good news on the Tcases because now I can do duals without hunting for another case

What about the gas tank on the 4runner, that thing is LOW I'm gonna be nervous driving over curbs to get to starbucks. Can I body lift and tuck it?

it can be done, bl of 2" will allow you to move the gas tank on top of the current mounting location.
