just rebuilt the 22RE in my 87 4x4 p/u. reinstalled the engine and now cold starts are a real bitch. it turns over for 10-15 seconds before finally starting. only happens if truck has been sitting for 6+ hrs. other than that, it starts and runs brilliantly... my mechanic has checked/cleaned the cold start injector, fuel pressure regulator (backpressure?) checked for leaking injectors into the cylinder.... ignitor & coil, no luck... Today they sent me home with a new battery.. find out if that works in about 8 hours in the morning... anyone ever have a problem like this? any ideas as to what might be the problem? your thoughts are appreciated.

faulty circuit opening relay?
If you turn the key on, but don't start the truck, do you hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds?
(You may need someone outside by the gas tank to listen.)

Engh.....cold start injection switch, possibly.

Pull the connector from the cold start switch, insert a stiff wire into the ground side (not sure which is which...only two choices, though), connect another wire to the neg. batt. term., then connect those two wires together and try to start it......cold, of course.

If you don't know where it is, it's on the front of the motor/lower intake next to the coolant temp sensor (green connector). The CS switch has a brown connector on my '86 and maybe also on yours.

Awesome guys, thanks for all the tips... as it turns out, the new battery seems to have worked. talk about wasting time troubleshooting!! Shoulda started with the basics.
