code 14 distributor or igniter missing at low rpm but smooth above 1300
My 94 4wd with 3vze v6 is studdering at low rpm but smooths out after about 1300 to 1500 rpm. It did have a code 14. My mechanic said it could be either the distributor or the igniter, that it is a 50/50 shot. Which one should I replace first?

I tested using the link provided by baja runner and all test out ok. Thanks for the replies. I found an igniter on amazon for 45.00 so I will give it a try.

code 14 no more
Code 14 was left over from another problem 2 years ago that was never cleared. I still tried an igniter and it was not it. It acts like a bad injecter. Any ideas?

Just a thought, I had a similiar problem, Code 14, stumble at speed, I changed the ignition coil, wasnt the problem, trouble shot it some more and found it was the spark plug wire boot that connected the iginition coil to the distributor was corroded and filled with gunk. Once I cleaned it up it solved my intermittent hard starting problem. Worth a try, wont cost anything to take a look. Good luck

Is it missing under load or not?
Missing at idle makes me think vacuum leak. Have you tried an unlit propane torch, going to all the vac lines? If idle goes up, you will have found one.

The plugs, wires, cap, and rotor are all less than 6 months old. All look good by visual inspection and all the plug look the same when I removed them. I wll try the vacuum leak detection trick soon. Will post results. Thanks for responses.

Tired of looking, took it to Toyota. They wanted to do a compression test for $90.00 so I declined so I could di it myself. They suspect a burned valve. Will post results.
