clutch slipping

clutch slipping
I have a 1989 pick-up, 5 speed, 22RE, new clutch, pressure plate, slave cylinder, clutch master cylinder, throwout bearing, with less than 3000 miles on them, & I replaced all the differential fluids with synthetic gear oil, & now my clutch is slipping like crazzy, I'm wondering if its because of the synthetic oil, because I also have a 76 kawasaki LTD 900 & a 1980 LTD 1000, & if you use synthtic motor oil in them, because they are wet clutches you will get slippage, also it seems like the colder it is outside, the more it slips...Thans for any help....Pete

Could be a bunch of things. Did you address the flywheel make sure its not warped at all or the mating surface was in good condition. Something could be restricting the clutch disks from fully engaging. Could even be the parts themselves not getting along especially if they were mix matched.

well,alot of times when you add synthetic oils to a old truck,it seeps throught the seals and gaskets because of it being thinner,also when its cold you get shrinkage (anything rubber or plastic),no pun intended.long story short, oil on the clutch from rear seal.

Russ, the flywheel was also resurfaced, & I dont know what you mean about parts being mismatched, clutch & pressure plate were bought at Napa, & the other parts were from Auto zone....Pete

What I meant with mix matching parts is straying from buying oem. Autozone drops the ball alot with parts I worked there for a summer and the amount of returns abd complaints was incredible

If you haven't already, bleed the clutch fluid. It uses regular old brake fluid, DOT 3 or 4. Bleed it like you normally do with brakes. Hook a clear hose to the bleeder. Have your helper depress the pedal to the floor. Open the bleeder till fluid stops flowing, close the bleeder. Have your helper release the pedal. Repeat until all the fluid in the system is new. Check the reservoir often to make sure it doesn't suck air otherwise you must start all over again. The reservoir is smaller than for your brakes so check it more often.
Synthetic gear oil in the trans is not bad. I use Redline synthetic MT90 in my transmission and transfer. It works great. I have had no issue with leaks on my original seals with somewhere around 175,000 miles. In your case, check to see if there is any visible sign of leakage from either the rear main seal, or the transmission input seal.

Russmoe, yea I hear you on the oem parts, but the price difference, its an 89 with 180.000 miles, & I dont know how long she'll stay alive, she's a rust bucket, but runs great b-sides the clutch problem, I'm thinking I should have put the original clutch back in it, because it had almost no wear, the problem was the throwout bearing, but I had already bought the new clutch, b-fore I dropped the trans, so I just put the new clutch in

Hmm...I always thought oil on clutch disc will cause chattering as well as slipping? My '89 the clutch was slipping a little bit noticeable only under fairly heavy load. Had shop fix it and works good now. Is the disc installed correctly...not reversed on the input shaft? Does the release bearing release completely?
