Clutch questions 95 4 runner from a newby

I have the opertunity to get me a 95 runner. sr5 v6 5 spd. 250k miles. no smoke, no leaks, everything works, body 6.5-7 out of 10. needs a clutch.

How much should I expect to pay to have it replaced, and or how difficult is it to replace myself?

Thanks, from a newby

If you pay a shop, its going to be at least 400$. Im replacing mine at a buddy house when i get the clutch from Marlin crawler.

$200 for the clutch
$30-40 for a flywheel resuface
then a case of beer for my friend.

Its easy to replace, it just takes some time. google "replacing a clutch", you just need a tranny jack and tools.

btw. marlin heavy duty clutch, the 1200lb one. Marlincrawler.com, clutches, heavy duty, 1200.

x2 on the marlin clutch. A buncha guys (including me) on here run them, we all love em! Feels like stock, but clamps much harder.

Expect to pay upwards of $800 from a shop, not a bad job for a noobie, expect to spend a whole day doing it. A tranny jack adapter is also a must, unless you are very strong

Make sure you get the flywheel resurfaced too!

Be thorough and make sure you group the bolts you take off, tranny in one pile, DS in another and so on. Follow the FSM for the proper torque settings.
I just put a Marlin super HD in mine and I LOVE IT. Took me a day from start to finish. No big deal. Better if you have help.

Pay no more than $400 for parts and labor.

Or you buy the parts, shoot for after market with specs better than stock OEM at a lower cost than stock OEM price. Shop around. Then horse trade a seasoned and thirsty wrench turner no more than one case New Castle loose pack or two cases of generic with maybe an incentive bottle of whatever brand firewater at no more than $35. Make sure you tie the incentive to an artificial performance clause. Also, be sure to sweat who ever you consider up front and hard. You want to know that they can finish the job even before they start. On the day of, make sure you feed them good coffee and give them good eats. If they will work for beer they will probably enjoy a Beef Eater type open faced sandwich from good delicatessen. Easy on the wheat products.

Or buy a keg, call the boys and make happy. Well as long as one of the boys is either a knows-how type or is a can-follow-written-instructions type.

Definitely do it yourself, unless you have no mechanical ability and then you might not have options. Dont cheap out on the clutch though, you dont want to have to pull the tranny back again to put in another clutch in a couple of months.
