Clutch fork rubbing?

Kind of stumped on this one on what direction to take. Middle of last week on the way to work I developed a loud scraping/squealing sound coming from the clutch. First thing I thought of is that the throw out bearing is shot and I'd be dropping the tranny. This starts as soon as the motor starts running, whether the clutch pedal is depressed or not. So now I'm wondering if maybe the fork is not coming back far enough and is making just enough contact to create the noise? But shouldn't the noise go away when I press the clutch in? I've got a week to think about this stuff before accepting the fact that I have to drop the tranny. Thinking of checking out the slave cylinder tonight after work. Probably has nothing to do with anything but that's my starting point. Any ideas?

Not sure if this helps out at all, but I just went out and started it to leave and the sound is exactly like a squealing belt. Very very high-pitched. Only time it's not squealing is if I reach down and pull the clutch pedal towards me but that only lasts a second or so and then it's back to making noise. Going to get it home tonight and park it for the rest of the week.

Well, I'll be busting into this thing on Friday after work. I'm just going to go ahead and replace the whole clutch kit but I'll post up if I actually figure out what was making the noise.
