Clutch cylinders or clutch itself?

Had this issue for a little bit now and I'm ready to finally deal with it but not sure which route to go becuase of funds. My clutch recently started to make the whining sound when in neutral and without being depressed. The last week or so, sometimes it does this high-pitched rattle/squeal right as I'm letting the pedal out when getting into gear. I know it's the throw out bearing making all the racket and was thinking about putting in a new clutch. But, I'm wondering if maybe the master and slave cylinders have something to do with. Sometimes the clutch feels like it engages higher and higher on the pedal travel and when that happens, I hook my foot under the pedal, pull back on it and I hear a click. As soon as that happens I have no pressure on the pedal until about halfway in the down travel and as I let it back up, the clutch grabs pretty hard. After a day or so of that, the clutch operates fine and then over a week to week and a half I'm back to the stage of it engaging high on the travel and I start this over again. Would a bad master and slave have an effect on the throw out bearing making the noise that it is? I already checked the pedal bracket for cracking and everythings good there. I'd like to try and narrow things down before I decide to go replacing stuff.
