Clutch adjustment

I just installed a new clutch. There is alot more tension on the pedal, but that was expected. It is the fact that I have to ram the pedal to the floor to engage the clutch enough to shift gears. I have heard that you can adjust the play in the pedal itself, but others recommend getting a longer pin for the slave cylinger in order to push the fork more. Has anyone done this and/or know where to get a longer pin?
