Clicking sound from front wheel

I have an 86 runner and a couple weeks ago a clicking sound started that gets loud above 40mph. I just replaced the wheel bearing and checked everything. It seemed to check out. The sound is still there, any suggestions?

Its got the manual hubs right? Rare for them to click, but you may have possibly missed a piece putting it back together or they are worn out.

Assuming manual hubs, lock the hubs and get it up to speed in 2wd. If the click goes away, it's a good indication that the hub isn't disengaging fully in the free position, and the splines are occasionally contacting. The hub is pretty easy to rebuild; lots of info on this forum if you do a search.

Not all that much up front to click. Here are a couple of other possiblilties I can think of:
- something in the brakes; a loose caliper or loose anti-rattle clip
- bad wheel bearing - could be the side you didn't work on. I often have a hard time hearing which side a noise is really coming from.
- bad cv joint in combination with a hub that isn't unlocking so the cv axle rotates all the time.

I just checked out the hub again and it's fine. I did see I have a torn cv boot so the joint might ˟˟˟˟ but the axle shouldn't even be spinning if the hub is unlocked correct?

If your CV gets bad enough it will make sounds. I had a ripped boot for nearly 2 years but eventually it started clicking even when the CV shaft wasn't/should not have been rotating. So lock your hubs, engage four high or low, and drive around, turning a lot. If the CV's bind, which would be obvious, time for rebuild/replacement.
