sounds more like hydrualics than the actual clutch. Check the slave cylinder while someone pushes the clutch to see if it's working, and check for leaks. You may have to bleed it. Or the pedal could just need an adjustment.

To check the clutch, best to do this in a open parking lot. Don't ask how I know.
Put the truck into 5th gear and step hard on the brake. Slowly let out on the clutch, you should stall the engine. Otherwise, you would look for a reving engine and no going forward when you drive. Clutches smell like REALLY HOT brakes when they are slipping. May want to concider replacing the shifter seat if you are having issues going into 1st or reverse.
