Cat off exhaust questions?
I recently picked up a 89 toyota truck and put a new 22re in it. It seems a little sluggish, and takes about a 7-9 seconds worth of cranking to start the truck. The truck has no cat on the exhaust, and was told that this will affect the fuel air mixture, and thus cause a loss of power and poor gas mileage. Both 02 sensors are in the exhaust and no engine lights are on. Can anyone tell me if this is robbing the engine of power?

whoever told you the cat affects air fuel ratio is just plain wrong. only thing the cat affects when properly operating is emissions. if it's clogged then the engines performance will suffer.
the only reason the second 02 sensor is there is to monitor the cat's efficiency. if there is no CEL on with a cat removed then chances are the emissions on the truck is actually good. But you still wouldn't pass cali emissions because it's required to be there. As well as many other states if not all.
the first o2 sensor is what measures the amount of un-burnt fuel in the exhuast and thus the ECU attempts to correct it.
BTW the 22r(e) is a sluggish motor anyway.
