can Coil-Over shocks be put on the front of a 2nd gen 4Runner?
i search for the lst hour or so and could not find if someone had said about it. can coil-over shocks be put on the front of a 2nd gen 4Runner. Why or why not? i recently did an advanced 4wheelin trail down here, and the rancho's just could not stand the beating. Some how the front right shock got bent ? Any way i was thinking why not see about coil-overs!

how much mod are we talking, like rip the whole suspension system up in the front and replacing it with the proper set-up, or just changing the upper A-arm and what, removing the torsion bar?

Bzzt.
Total Chaos Long Travel kit.
Welding required for the coil over hoop.
Not cheap.
Not for "rock crawling" - intended for Dez PreRunning.
Though if you run soft coils it could work I suppose..
Way more $$$ than a SAS..

Total Chaos GenII Caddy system, or the system Deathrunner has - JD Fabrication I think (?)
As for applicability and cost - you need to do some more research. There are a bunch of people out there 'crawling with long travel. Cost is the same or LESS than a SAS of equivalent quality.

Cost of LT done right is just a few hundred cheaper than a coilover swap with Diamond.
Cost of LT done mediocre is same as sas done mediocre. SAS done mediocre has no more strength than IFS. More lift and more flex is it.
LT can be made to crawl, LT can be made to jump. SAS or LT is not Cheap.
Coilover swap involves heavy modification. LT is the way to go if you want Coilover on early IFS.

Jim at Protrux had designed soem upper arms for the 1st and 2nd gen suspension (Same gig).
The arm is much like a 3rd gen upper arm or an LT upper arm. It has plenty of clearnace to fit a coilover, I believe. You would need a set of those and a shock hoop.
Last I heard, they weren't meant for public consumption due to lack of demand. At half the price of an lt kit and 3/4 of the travel, it's an ok idea.
