A/C swap 91 4Runner to 89 pickup

Hey guys I am brand new to the site but have been lurking around for a couple of weeks. I recently bought my first Toyota. An 89 pickup with a 22RE motor. Awesome little truck but unfortunately it has no AC, hence the thread im starting here...

Now before you say anything, yes I did search, and came up with some answers, but nothing specific. I was hoping to find someone here that had some experience doing a swap like this and give me some hints and tell me if it will work.

My truck is a 89 pickup with 22RE motor. No AC option. I found a donor 91 4Runner at a local salvage yard that I can take parts off. I can even take the whole dash if need be. The 4Runner is a V6 so im not sure if that would be a problem.

Has anyone ever done something like this or have any advice for me?

I'm not sure what your bugdet is but check out ackits.com. My wife's begging me to put a/c on her truck and when I do that's the way I'm going- all new with warranty.
For the 89-95 pickups: https://www.ackits.com/pc/AMA16873-2...A16873-2037%29
Has everything down to the idler pulley.

Not sure the V6 a/c would be a bolt-for-bolt swap with the I4.

For something like this, i'd buy a parts-truck for $600, move over all the a/c parts, then sell the parts-truck for $500. You're going to have a ton of little stuff you'll need along the way, that can nickel-and-dime you to bk.

I've looked at those and they do look great but that's just a little too much money for me to spend on a fairly old truck. If by next summer I can't find anything else I might have to go this route because Texas summers are miserable lol but hopefully I can get something cheaper...

I've looked for a donor truck locally that I could buy but so far no luck in finding one

The V6 A/c system will not work in the 22re...I have been putting a/c in my 89 22re 4runner and have had several unpleasant (read: costly) surprises. Go from 22re to 22re to save yourself headache and money.

That's exactly what I needed to hear, from someone who has done such a thing. What exactly is different between the 2?

The wiring harness are different as is the compressor. I'm not sure if the evap. and condenser are different or not.

Yea, good parts-pickups are never available when you want them. Can't speak on the specific differences between V6 and I4, yet a good hunch just says there's enough differences to make it worth the while to find a good 22R donor. The compressor probably isn't in the same exact place, which means the high and low pressure hoses are going to be different. Stick it out for a 22R donor.

I took a second look at the 4 runner and it defenitely has plugs where mine doesn't. Does anybody know if the 22re pickup has a pusher fan like the 4runner does?

I was about to buy a compressor and lines today off a 93 v6. And just to clarify things, it would not work on my 94 22re correct?
